Supercar enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that Ford's all-new GT supercar will be powered by more horses than that of the current model.

Driven by a new twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 Ford's most powerful EcoBoost engine yet, which produces more than 600bhp - the GT has also been stripped of any extra weight by making extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminum materials, resulting in Ford's most extreme offering to date.

The eagerly-awaited GT will hit the road in select global markets to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT race cars, which scored a hat trick as they crossed the finish line in 1-2-3 formation at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Commenting on Henry Ford's victory of 1901, when a race car of his own design overcame his rivals in a 10-lap race and inspired financial backers to invest in his company, Ford president and chief executive officer, Mark Fields, said: "As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it's worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in a laboratory, but on the racetrack. We are passionate about innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people's hearts pound."

The GT is one of just 12 new Ford Performance vehicles to be launched by 2020, joining the Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R in the growing Ford Performance lineup.
