Chris Ingram 'confident' ahead of Estonia rally
Most 21-year-olds celebrate the milestone birthday with a raucous night out. Not Chris Ingram, however. Having celebrated his birthday just days ago, the up and coming Peugeot UK rally driver will soon be heading out to the fast forest roads of Estonia for the sixth round of the 2015 FIA European Junior Rally Championship.
In his 208 R2, the Manchester-based racer hopes to continue his successful streak after winning at the Sata Rallye A�ores at the beginning of June.
In the current standings, Chris and his co-driver, Gabin Moreau, are in second place at just 26 points behind Sweden's Emil Bergkvist. And whilst he has never raced in Estonia before, Ingram is entering the round full of confidence.
He commented: "Rally Estonia is the only round of the ERC Junior championship that I have never done but I'm not too worried because on the stages which have been new to me on the other events this year, I've been very quick and often set fastest time.
"The fight for the ERC Junior title is wide open. There is no need for me to work out what points we need, because the only thing I am focused on is beating Emil on the remaining two rounds. In Estonia, it's just going to be a flat-out sprint from start to finish."
The young driver has good reason to be confident, with an impressive number of accolades under his belt. During his short career, he has won the Junior 1000 Rally Championship in 2011, the MSA UK Young Driver of the Year Award in 2012 and the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy in both 2014 and 2015.
His 208 'R2' rally car is produced by Peugeot Sport and constructed to ERC competition specification. It is designed to be an affordable competitive start in professional rallying and features a design derived from the popular road-going 208.
