Here is the Peugeot 308 GTi up close

Peugeot's new 308 GTi is the latest in a distinguished line of hot hatch's from the marque, including the classic 205 GTi. With increased power and firmer suspension over the standard car, the 308 GTi is intended for drivers who crave more involvement from their driving experience.

Building on the success of the 208 GTi, the 308 GTi is now Peugeot's largest hot hatchback. That means five doors, a larger boot and more room in the rear. Its size and practicality doesn't detract from its sense of fun, however, with a lower ride height and sportier styling. This ensures that the 308 GTi has no issues in standing out.

The 308 GTi comes in two variations GTi 250 and GTi 270. Both are powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, with the 250 producing 247bhp, and the 270 boasting 268bhp. The smaller of the two is good for 0-60mph in 6.2secs whilst the 270 can reach it in 6.0secs. Both surge on to a top speed of 155mph. This power is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which contributes to the sense of engagement and dynamism.

Looks are crucial when choosing a hot hatchback, and Peugeot doesn't disappoint. So with the 308 GTi, they've made a tremendous effort, trimming the car in alcantara and red stitching. The 250 comes with a GTI grille with a chequered flag design, twin exhausts with a black diffuser and plenty of GTI badges.

Approach the 270 and you will find 19-inch 'Carbone' alloy wheels and red brake callipers with 380mm front discs, whilst inside the cabin there are leather and alcantara coated bucket seats.

Power is abundant, and there's lots of torque courtesy of the turbo to launch the GTi out of corners. It feels fast and is undoubtedly an attractive package for customers desiring a standard hatch with more power.
