Nissan reveal IDS concept at Tokyo Motor show, showing the brand's vision of the future of driving

Nissan has today unveiled its latest concept, the IDS, at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015.

The concept embodies Nissan's future vision of autonomous driving and zero emission EVs, a goal which the Japanese carmaker hope to implement across a number of its vehicles by 2020.

Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn commented on the brand's Intelligent Driving technology: "Nissan Intelligent Driving improves a driver's ability to see, think and react. It compensates for human error, which causes more than 90 percent of all car accidents. As a result, time spent behind the wheel is safer, cleaner, more efficient and more fun."

The IDS concept promises intelligent autonomous driving, which mimics that of the driver, by way of acceleration, braking and performance.

Whilst in manual mode the driver has control, but the intelligent driving system provides assistance via sensors continually monitoring conditions, ready to assist in the event of imminent danger.

The IDS concept's Artificial Intelligence keeps track of information concerning traffic conditions, the driver's schedule and personal interests, sharing it with the driver when needed.

Mitsunori Morita, Design Director at Nissan commented: "A key point behind the Nissan IDS Concept is communication. For autonomous drive to become reality, as a society we have to consider not only communication between car and driver but also between cars and people. The Nissan IDS Concept's design embodies Nissan's vision of autonomous drive as expressed in the phrase together, we ride."
