Insurance groups range from 1 to 50 and dictates the cost of the vehicles insurance. The higher the group, the higher the insurance will be for the vehicle.
BHP rates the engine performance of vehicles and stands for the brake horsepower.
CO2 is the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the vehicle in grams per kilometre travelled, the lower the CO2 emissions the cleaner the vehicle is for the environment.
The total number of seats in the vehicle.
Number Of Seats
Road Tax is based upon the CO2 emissions of the vehicle and is split into 13 bands from A to M. The higher the letter the greater the cost of tax paid to drive the vehicle on public roads. In addition to the road tax detailed below, any vehicle that had a manufacturers retail price in excess of £40,000 when first sold, attracts a road tax supplement of an additional £310 per year. This is charged until the vehicle is 6 years old.

Since its introduction, Vauxhall's Astra ecoFLEX models have kept their running costs impressively low through what's now becoming the proven method of combining optimised engine management software and gear ratios with active aerodynamics. With the introduction of the revised 1.7 CDTi ecoFLEX, CO2 has been lowered to a tax-busting 99 g/km and fuel consumption to a remarkable 76.3mpg
Vauxhall is just one of numerous manufacturers to have an eco-brand that to signify its greenest cars. Ford has ECOnetic, Volkswagen has Bluemotion, Skoda has Greenline, Renault has eco2 and there are many other variations on the theme. These cars tend to get a lot of publicity because they achieve the headline economy and emissions figures that the manufacturers like to crow about. It means there's much to be gained by outstripping your rivals by a few miles per gallon or the odd gram per kilometre of CO2. The most recent addition to Astra ecoFLEX range employs some clever technology to do just that.
In creating the Astra ecoFLEX range, Vauxhall first employed the smallest diesel engine at its disposal, then added the largest but it's the most recent newcomer to the range, the 130PS 1.7 CDTi, that perhaps delivers the optimum blend of performance, economy and emissions. If the thought of a 94bhp 1.3-litre CDTi diesel powering a vehicle of the Astra's bulk gives some cause for concern, the 1.7 should most certainly fit the bill. It actually develops 5PS more than the regular 1.7 CDTi and supplements it with a meaty 300Nm of torque. But it still manages to take you further on every litre while keeping the air cleaner. A tweaked ECU, different fuel injection system, a lower compression ratio, energy recuperating brakes and stop-start team up with low friction piston rings, tappets and piston pins to make the difference. Additionally the six-speed gearbox has been revised to reduce friction and tuned specifically to the revised engine.
In contrast with the green versions of some family hatchbacks, the Astra ecoFLEX amounts to more than some engine tinkering and longer gearbox ratios. The car also features active aerodynamics in the form of a shutter behind the front grille that can close to ease the car's passage through the air at high speeds. There are also more conventional aerodynamic changes to the underside of the vehicle. Otherwise, the recipe for this greener Astra is much the same as for any other in the latest model range. Vauxhall wanted the car to feel special from the driver's seat and by family hatchback standards, it does. Switchgear lifted from the larger Insignia is very much in evidence from the steering column to the over-buttoned main console. There are some nice design touches such as the way the dash swoops around to integrate with the doors and door pulls themselves. Numerous storage options feature around the cabin and large vents built into the A-pillars that do a great job of demisting the side windows. You'll find plenty of space for a couple of six-footers in the back so long as the front seats aren't right back on their runners. There's even an abundance of headroom back there, despite the car's plunging roofline. In the boot, a 370-litre capacity reveals itself which isn't enormous for the class but higher spec models get a neat FlexFloor underfloor compartment that improves matters.
Unlike the economy-focused cars offered by some rival manufacturers, the Astra ecoFLEX is available in a variety of trim levels. It puts an end to the idea that green cars need to be stripped bare of creature comforts and buyers with a taste the sportier side of like can even opt for an SRi model with the usual body styling accessories. The other trim levels range from the S model through the Exclusiv to the SE. Even the basic Astras get a CD stereo with MP3 compatibility and an AUX socket, electric heated mirrors, remote central locking, a rake and reach adjustable steering wheel and a 60:40 split rear bench.
The crux of the Astra ecoFLEX was always going to be the cold hard facts of its economy and emissions figures. With a 67.3mpg combined cycle showing and 109g/km emissions, the 1.3 CDTi is right up with the most efficient and cleanest family hatchbacks on the market. But the 1.7 is better still and returns an outstanding 76.3mpg , massively improving on the 62.8mpg of the regular 125PS 1.7 CDTi, while its 99 g/km of CO2 exemps it from the London Congestion Charge, as well as enjoying zero VED (Vehicle Excise Duty), inclusion in the lowest 13 per cent BIK (Benefit in Kind) tax band, and 100 per cent capital allowance for businesses. For the first time on a Vauxhall ecoFLEX model, an energy-recuperation system has been introduced. When the driver takes his/her foot off the throttle, or applies the brakes, kinetic energy is collected and stored in the battery, allowing the alternator to shut down when there is sufficient charge to run ancillaries. In addition, a clutch activates the air conditioning compressor only when it's needed. Standard LED daytime running lights also reduce energy consumption. Owners will reap the benefits in terms of lower fuel bills and a lighter taxation burden which, in this day and age, should prove a big draw.

PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) a simple cost effective way to buy your new or nearly new
You choose the car, the deposit, how long you want the contract to run for and the mileage you intend to do. You will then receive a quote for fixed cost motoring for the length of the contract. At the end of the contract you have a choice to either buy the car outright for an agreed lump sum (the GFV or final balloon payment), or hand the vehicle back to the lender.
Hire Purchase allows you to take ownership of a car once all payments are made.
This is one of the most popular methods to buy a new vehicle. You pay an initial deposit, then pay off the balance in monthly payments over an agreed period of time, when the payments are complete the car is yours.
One of the main benefits with Hire Purchase is the ability to buy a high value vehicle on
Hire Purchase allows you to tailor your finance package as deposit, length of time and monthly payments are all flexible.
Personal contract hire is very similar to normal contract hire, but is exclusively for
private individuals. This
is one of the most common form of leasing.
With a personal contract hire agreement you take control of a car for a contractual period – usually referred to as the ‘lease period’. You will make fixed monthly payments for the duration of the contract – when the contract expires you will simply return the car and take out a new personal contract hire lease. PCH means you never have to worry about resale values of your car.
