An Update to the New Vehicle Payment for Motability Customers

An Update to the New Vehicle Payment for Motability Customers

The Motability Scheme has been helping disabled people and their families enjoy motoring freedom for many years. Thanks to a recent update, customers can now enjoy even greater flexibility.

Read on to learn more.

The New Vehicle Payment

The New Vehicle Payment was first introduced in 2022 to help with the rising costs of new vehicles on the Scheme. It was initially set at £250; however, in March 2023, it was increased to £750.

Originally, this would be paid to customers once they took delivery of their new vehicle. Now, individuals can use this New Vehicle Payment towards the cost of some or all, of their new vehicle’s Advance Payment.

An Advance Payment is a sum of money to be paid upfront for certain large or high-specification vehicles. It is additional to the mobility allowance and is intended to bridge the gap between the cost of the car and the allowance, over the term of the agreement.

If you are eligible for the New Vehicle Payment, you can choose to send it directly to your local Motability dealer. You won’t need to do anything further as Motability will take care of everything once you place your order. Our Motability Specialist at your chosen dealership will help explain the process if you have any questions.

How it works

If your Advance Payment is more than £750, you will need to pay the difference between the New Vehicle Payment and the Advance Payment.

For example, if you have your eye on a vehicle with an Advance Payment of £1,000 and want to use your New Vehicle Payment, you will have £250 left to pay.

If your Advance Payment is less than £750, the Motability Scheme will send you the difference once your new vehicle has been delivered.

For example, if you order a vehicle with an Advance Payment of £500 and want to use your New Vehicle Payment, you will receive £250 back.

The money will be returned via bank transfer if you have your bank details saved in your Motability Scheme online account. If not, you will receive a cheque. This will happen within a week or two of taking delivery of your vehicle.

If you have already ordered a new Motability vehicle and would like to use your New Vehicle Payment towards your Advance Payment, please contact your Motability Specialist who will be able to help.

You can only send your New Vehicle Payment to your dealer to help with the cost of your vehicle’s Advance Payment. You cannot use it to help with the cost of adaptations or extras. You cannot use the Good Condition Payment towards the Advance Payment either.

Am I eligible for the New Vehicle Payment?

New and existing Scheme customers who are renewing their lease are eligible for the payment as long as they place their order before the end of 2023.

Customers can only receive this payment once. So, if you have taken delivery of a new vehicle since the payment was introduced, you will not receive another payment on your next lease.
