Hearts Move Closer To Third With Kilmarnock Draw

Hearts have moved closer to securing third in the Scottish Premiership after the Macklin Motors-backed side picked up a draw against nearest rivals Kilmarnock.

Hearts went into the game knowing that a victory would be enough to wrap up a top three finish, and ensure a place in the group stages of European competition for the 2024/25 season.

After Kilmarnock spurned an early chance to hit the front through Stuart Findlay, Hearts hit the woodwork after Lawrence Shankland set up fellow forward Kenneth Vargas to shoot against the bar.

Cammy Devlin then clipped the crossbar with a curled shot, before Frankie Kent missed with a header from close range shortly after the break.

Kilmarnock did have chances of their own late on, with Gary Mackay-Steven – formerly of Hearts – forcing Zander Clark into a save with a volley.

Clark was then the hero for Hearts late on, when an injury time strike from Marley Watkins was tipped over the bar to keep the scores level and move the Edinburgh side closer towards its European goal.

Hearts remain eleven points clear of their rivals in the standings and will hope to wrap up third this weekend when they travel to Celtic, with Kilmarnock facing Rangers a day later.
