Hibernian See Off Former Finalists To Progress

Hibernian saw off the challenge of last season's beaten finalists to progress to the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 victory at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Macklin Motors-backed side was looking to fight back from a controversial late loss to Celtic but controlled the game against their Championship opponents, even though it took until the second half to make the breakthrough against a stubborn defence.

Myziane Maolida gave Hibs the lead on 55 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection to beat Mark Ridgers in the Caley Thistle goal.

Hibs went two up when Morgan Boyes was unable to deal with a long ball forwards and Martin Boyle sped onto it to round the ‘keeper and slot in the second.

The Australian international then turned provider – sliding a cross into the middle where Elie Youan bundled home.

The home fans had reason to cheer right at the end when Aaron Doran volleyed in the goal of the game to get one back, but it was the Edinburgh side who progressed to the next round.

The reward for the win is an away trip to Rangers in the quarter finals.
