The Mazda3 Wins 'Best Small Hatchback Of The Year' Award

The Mazda3 has been named the ‘Best Small Hatchback of the Year’ at the 2020 UK Car of the Year Awards.

Made up of 27 leading automotive journalists from the UK, judges at the UK 2020 Car of the Year Awards were blown away with the Mazda3.

The Mazda3 stood out from competitors, scooping up the Best Small Car of the Year Award, and consequently, being shortlisted as the overall UK Car of the Year 2020, which will be announced later this month.

After test driving on the roads of Britain, judges were impressed with the Mazda3, commenting on its performance, style and technology which, combined, have made the Mazda3 a ”class leader in this sector”, according to judge, Matt Robinson.

Fellow judge, Alisdair Suttie, said: “On looks alone, the Mazda3 is a class apart from its peers, yet the appeal is much more than skin deep. Superb to drive, comfortable and made to exacting standards, the Mazda3 also comes with clever engine technology that makes it both fun and frugal to drive. All of this made it an easy choice as UKCOTY’s Small Hatch of the Year”.

The Mazda3 is the first model from the brand to be powered by the exceptional Skyactiv-X engine, which creates an exquisite drive, improving fuel economy and lowering emissions. Burning less fuel than a conventional vehicle, not only does it improve fuel efficiency, but the Skyactiv-X engine improves power, giving drivers exceptional performance and enabling them to live the best of both worlds.

Talking about the Mazda3, judge, Paul Hudson, said: “Stylish inside and out, it drives well and is packed with standard equipment”. The exterior design of the Mazda 3 boasts a sporty and seductive style, with LED headlights and keyless entry for a luxury touch. Inside, quality materials make up the comfortable and sleek interior, with leather seat trims, heated front seats and an exceptional 12-speaker sound system to make the Mazda3 stand out even more.

Customers are given a fantastic choice with the Mazda3. From 5 grades to choose from and 8 colour variations to engine options, customers can tailor their Mazda3 to their preferences.

Managing Director of Mazda UK, Jeremy Thomson said: “The Mazda3 is already winning over customers with its quality, style and driver engagement, so recognition in the UKCOTY Awards is fantastic. In a marketplace that has seen the launch of lots of great cars across many sectors, it’s a real testament to the Mazda3 that it’s taken a category win in a segment as competitive as the family hatchback class.”

The win also means the Mazda3 is now in the running for winning the biggest accolade of them all: UK Car of the Year 2020. The 10 shortlisted contestants will go head to head later this month. Commenting on the shortlisting, Jeremy Thompson, said: I’m also delighted that the Mazda3 is a contender for the overall UK Car of the Year title, where I’m sure the innovative Skyactiv-X engine will help the Mazda3 stand out with the judges.”
