Hibernian Battle Back For Important Point

Hibernian battled back from two goals down to secure a first point in the Scottish Premiership since the season resumed after the winter break.

Hibs made the trip to Rugby Park having suffered a 3-0 loss at home to in-form Rangers a few days earlier, with Nick Montgomery’s side unable to end a wretched run of form against the Glasgow outfit.

A difficult afternoon appeared to be ahead for Hibs when Kilmarnock took the lead, with an in-swinging cross from Danny Armstrong being headed into his own net by Dylan Vente under pressure from Corrie Ndaba.

Things got worse after the break when another cross from Armstrong fell to Matty Kennedy at the back post to make it 2-0 as Kilmarnock looked to keep pace with Hib’s city rivals Hearts in the table.

Hibs got back into the game in dramatic fashion when a cross from the right from Rory Whittaker found its way to Joe Newell to volley into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The game then took a turn when Ndaba was sent off for a foul on Jair Tavares, and Hibs made the most of the extra man when Myziane Maolida smacked in an equaliser with nine minutes left on the clock.

Hibs could have stolen all three points when Christian Doidge missed a late header, but the point means the Edinburgh side remain sixth in the standings ahead of the visit of St Mirren.
