Hibernian Overcome Missed Spot Kick To See Off Forfar

Hibernian overcome a stubborn Forfar Athletic to make it through to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

Forfar had gone into the game on a high after picking up just a fourth league win of the season in the previous match against Elgin City, with a last minute penalty from Russell McLean proving to be decisive.

Despite struggling in the league so far this season, the home side created some good chance early on as Seb Ross hit the woodwork before Hibs had the chance to go ahead after Lewis Stevenson was felled in the box.

Joe Newell stepped up to take the kick but saw his spot-kick saved by Marc McCallum to keep things all square.

Forfar had chances to make Hibs pay for that miss before half-time but the two teams went in level – with both then having chances to score after the break.

However, it would be Hibs who eventually made the breakthrough when McCallum was unable to hold on to a free kick and the ball bounced in off Christian Doidge.

From there, Hibs held on to secure a place in the next round and an away tie with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
