Heart of Midlothian recovered from the disappointment of defeat in the Viaplay Cup semi-finals with a second successive Scottish Premiership success in the final round of games before the international break.

Having been beaten by Rangers at Hampden Park a week earlier, the Jambos made the trip to Fir Park chasing just a second away win of the season to head into the break inside the top four.

Lawrence Shankland continued a recent run of form when he flicked in the opening goal shortly before the half hour mark, with Hearts then being denied a penalty by VAR on two occasions.

Shankland netted his fifth goal in five games to double the advantage with twenty minutes left to play, and although a penalty from Blair Spittal allowed Motherwell to get on the score sheet, Hearts held on to take the points.

The performance from Shankland meanwhile earned him a late call-up to the Scotland squad for games against Georgia and Norway after Che Adams was ruled out by injury.

It means the Macklin Motors-backed team sit fourth in the points, just two behind third-placed St Mirren ahead of the next game later this month at home to St Johnstone.
