Heart of Midlothian endured a tough week on the pitch as the Macklin Motors-backed side saw its recent winning run in the Scottish Premiership come to an end.

The Jambos had scored four league wins in a row after losing to Rangers at Ibrox in late November – when two injury time goals saw Steven Naismith’s side slide to defeat in dramatic circumstances.

This time around it was Rangers who were the away side as they headed for Tynecastle, with Hearts showing early promise as both Lawrence Shankland and Alex Cochrane came close to an opening goal.

However, when Abdallah Sima was put through by James Tavernier, he slotted in a twelfth goal of the season to give Rangers the lead.

Hearts went close to an equaliser in the second half but were denied by Jack Butland in the visitor’s goal as the winning run came to an end, although they retained third in the standings despite the defeat.

Hearts then headed for Pittodrie to face Aberdeen and took the lead in the first half when Lawrence Shankland maintained his recent good form by heading in a corner from Alex Cochrane.

Aberdeen equalised when Jamie McGrath set up Bojan Miovski to score and the home side grabbed all three points right at the death when Leighton Clarkson tapped home in injury time to secure a 2-1 win.

The defeat means Hearts drop to fifth, albeit only two points away from third place.
