The first Edinburgh derby of the season proved to be a dramatic affair as the two Macklin Motors-backed rivals shared the spoils at Tynecastle.

Hibernian made the trip to neighbours Heart of Midlothian looking to maintain an unbeaten record under new boss Nick Montgomery, but the run seemed to be coming to an end as the home side took control of the game.

A stunning strike from Alan Forrest, who cut in from the wing before firing a thunderbolt into the top corner, gave Hearts a first half lead and that advantage was doubled just before the hour mark when Christian Doidge sliced a cross past his own keeper and into the net.

Elie Youan had other ideas however, with quickfire double ensuring that the points were shared.

The Frenchman took advantage of a lapse at the back to smash in his first goal on 66 minutes and less than 90 seconds later, latched on to a poor clearance from Toby Sibbick to smash in the equaliser.

Hearts sit fourth following the game, with Hibs only two points behind in seventh.
