The two Macklin Motors-backed sides played out an entertaining draw in the third Edinburgh derby of the Scottish Premiership season at Tynecastle.

The first derby of the season at the same venue back in October had resulted in a 2-2 draw after a double from Elie Youan allowed Hibs to come from two goals down to secure a point.

However, the second derby at Easter Road just after Christmas saw Hearts grab the points thanks to an injury time winner from Lawrence Shankland.

The two sides had faced vastly different runs of form since then, with Hearts winning every game bar one prior to the weekend defeat at Rangers, but Hibs suffering a winless run that would only end with Saturday’s success against Dundee.

Eager to add to that success to close in on the top six, Hibs started the stronger of the two teams and grabbed the lead just before the half hour mark.

Having beaten his man on the edge of the box, Martin Boyle saw a dinked shot beat Zander Clark in the Hearts goal before being cleared off the line only for Emiliano Marcondes to drive in the rebound.

Hearts drew level before the break when Will Fish was deemed to have fouled Kenneth Vargas in the box, with Shankland stepping up to beat David Marshall from the spot for his 26th goal of the season.

Hibs continued to create the better chances, with Dylan Vente and Marcondes both going close before Myziane Maolida headed just wide late on when well placed.

Hearts meanwhile would struggle to put Marshall under further pressure, with Shankland having the only other chance on target but without an end reward.

The point means Hearts are now twelve points clear of Kilmarnock in the race for third spot after they went down to defeat against Rangers, whilst Hibs have closed to within a point of Dundee in the race for the top six after they suffered a heavy loss at Celtic.

Both sides have home fixtures this weekend, with Hibs welcoming Ross County to Easter Road on Saturday before Hearts go up against Celtic at Tynecastle the following day.
